Riverina Councils in New South Wales Australia Considering Cockatoo Cull
| Riverina
councils considering cockatoo cull...
Two councils in south-west New South Wales are considering culling hundreds of cockatoos. The sound of sulphur crested cockatoos and little corellas is becoming less and less welcome in some parts of the Riverina. The Hay Shire Council says it is still awaiting the advice of an expert before it decides whether or not to cull up to 400 cockatoos and corellas that have flocked to the town. It says the birds are damaging public and private property, including trees in local parks but sees a cull as a last resort. The Berrigan Shire Council is also considering culling several hundred corellas, and is at the moment making inquiries on how to get a temporary exemption from protected species laws.
